GOVERNING BOARD

Governing Board:
The governing board is the ultimate policy-making body for the CIVICA Network schools and will have the responsibility for the affairs and management of the schools. The governing board will provide continuing oversight of school operations, including a responsibility to effectively and property manage public funds.

The President shall preside at all the meetings of the Board and he or she has the general management powers and duties usually vested in the office of the President and the general manager of a corporation as well as such other powers and duties as the Board may prescribe from time to time.

The Vice President, in the absence or disability of the President, shall perform all duties of the President and shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as the Board may prescribe from time to time.

The Secretary shall:

  • GMaintain minutes of all meetings of the Board and its committees;
  • Give notice of all meetings of the Board;
  • Distribute the minutes of the meetings of the Board to all its members promptly after the meetings, keep the seal of the corporation in safe custody;
  • Maintain all reports, statements and other documents required by law, except to the extent the same are to be kept or filed by the Treasurer; and
  • Perform such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed from time to time by the Board as well as all other duties detailed within the Code.

The Governing Board of the school will perform the following duties regarding the governing board of charter schools:

  • Oversee operational policies, academic accountability and financial accountability;
  • Annually adopt and maintain an operating budget;
  • Exercise continuing oversight over charter school operations;
  • Report its progress annually to its sponsor, which shall forward the report to the Commissioner of Educa tion when the annual school accountability reports are due;
  • Ensure that the charter school has retained the services of a certified public accountant for the annual financial audit;
  • Review and approve the audit report, including the audit findings and recommendations;
  • Monitor a financial recovery plan to ensure compliance;
  • Report progress annually to Public School System
